Did you know that making your own dishwasher detergent is quick, easy and cheap?? You can literally make it in less than 10 minutes, and it costs mere pennies per load. Many conventional dishwasher detergents are full of nasty ingredients like Phosphates, Parabens, Sulfates and other chemicals.
All of the required ingredients in this recipe can be found at your local supermarket. Follow these simple steps, and you will have a homemade detergent that is safe and natural.

Step 6: Stir all powdered ingredients together. Add 15-25 drops of Lemon essential oil. Stir again to thoroughly combine all ingredients.
Step 7: Using a funnel, pour detergent into glass jar or other container with well-fitting lid.
To use your homemade dishwasher detergent:
Shake or stir detergent regularly to break up clumps. Clumping is normal and does not affect the ability of the detergent to clean your dishes. Use 2-3 Tablespoons of detergent at a time.
**Important Note!!** This detergent works best with a rinse aid. I use a couple splashes of distilled white vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher before I start the load. You could also put the vinegar in your "rinse aid" compartment if you have one.
